Our Team

  • JOCELYN BERTHEAU joined Canec in 1990 and is today the company’s driving force in North America, while continuing to promote the firm’s services in Europe. Jocelyn’s strength is in representing French, Dutch, German and other European companies in their North American acquisition and divestiture needs. He has facilitated numerous mid-market transactions on behalf of buyers and sellers. He has particular expertise in food & beverage ingredients, nutraceutical & cosmetic ingredients, plastics, packaging, and automotive industry components.

    Prior to joining Canec, he was an international sales and marketing executive in the chemical and petrochemical industry, expanding the interests of French companies into other markets. 

    Jocelyn is a graduate of EPSCI (ESSEC Group), a French international business school with a term at San Diego State University. He is based in Toronto, Canada.
Jocelyn BERTHEAU
  • GILLES MEESE joined Canec in 1999 to reinforce its European presence in Paris, France. His international financial and industrial background feeds his M&A advisory capabilities. Gilles has completed transactions in the automotive, aerospace, packaging and fluid-handling sectors as well as in the food and nutraceutical ingredient industry. He is familiar with both plastics and metal technologies.

    Prior to joining Canec, Gilles held successive international executive positions in corporate banking (3 years with BFCE in New York, now called Natixis), in manufacturing (10 years with exposure to Europe, North-America and Africa) and real estate development (5 years as CEO of UK and Spanish subsidiaries of a large French developer).

    Gilles graduated from Paris Dauphine University in Business Administration and from Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris. He is based in Paris, France.
Gilles MEESE
  • XAVIER GUILLARD joined Canec in 2007 to spearhead Canec’s activity from Quebec. Given his extensive corporate and investment banking experience, Xavier has strong expertise in many facets of M&A and financing, both in Europe and North America and on a transatlantic basis. He has particular sector experience in aerospace, telecom, media and communications, plastic packaging, transportation, and the environmental industry.

    Prior to joining Canec, Xavier worked for over 25 years both in Canada and Europe in the corporate and investment banking sector with UBS and National Bank Financial and as a transatlantic M&A consultant. 

    Xavier has a Master of Science in Finance from CSUN in California, and is a graduate of ESCAE Clermont Ferrand, a French business school. He is based in Montreal, Canada.
Xavier GUILLARD
  • HOWARD HARRIS joined Canec in 2010 to strengthen Canec’s expertise in the electronic manufacturing services (EMS) and electrical/electronic components industries, as well as to add a presence in the United States. Howard’s special areas of expertise include structuring and negotiating M&A transactions and other forms of strategic alliance, with particular emphasis on cross-border deals. He has over 20 years experience in managing various forms of strategic growth, alliance and restructuring. 

    Prior to joining Canec, Howard was Director corporate development/M&A at various global corporations, such as Jabil Circuit, Textron Automotive Company, and AMP Incorporated, now Tyco Electronics, leading teams that consummated over 30 acquisitions in North and South America, Eastern and Western Europe, and Asia. 

    Howard has a B.S. in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a J.D. from The Ohio State University College of Law. He is based in Palm Harbor, Florida.
